If it's a double cylinder deadbolt the lock has a little tailpiece on each side that interlock into the bolt itself. Your tailpiece on the exterior cylinder has broken, not even the locksmith will be able to get through without damaging something. That said and done, the lock is probably worth less than a what a locksmith would charge. This article is written specifically for the old-style GU / Ferco multipoint lock (77-1/4 in. Version, 80 in. Version) with deadbolt and shootbolts in a Pella door; this article is meant to address situations in which the door has been 'locked shut,' or, that is to say, stuck closed in the locked position.
I’m trying to troubleshoot this front door lock issue. The knob no longer controls the deadbolt, and the deadbolt is stuck in the locked position. I’m attaching a pic of it with the lock removed. Here is background on the issue:Last Sept: moved into a new construction house.
Hired Amazon Home Services to install a Schlage Connect smart lock with keypad.Last Dec: this issue first arose. The knob would turn, but it no longer controlled the deadbolt. I contacted Schlage; they didn’t even try to troubleshoot the issue, and just sent me a brand new lock. I found that odd since this isn’t a cheap item.Amazon sent someone out for free to fix the issue (different company than the one who installed it). They played with the lock, and played with the door hinges, and the lock began to work again. The person said it’s due to the new house settling.Last week: same issue happened again.
Amazon Home Services sent someone out this morning (different company than the initial visits). She played with the lock, but couldn’t figure it out. She didn’t attempt to reset the door as she didn’t know how to do that. Her thought is that the deadbolt is stuck and cannot be removed. She think a professional locksmith is needed, to knock out the metal plate shown in the pic, and attempt to pull out the deadbolt. She thinks we may even need to break the door off.So what do you think the issue is?
Do you think it’s truly the door shifting positions and messing up the lock alignment? Or does it sound like an issue with the Schlage lock itself?
Do you think I need to call a professional locksmith, or a professional handyman (if it’s a door alignment issue)? The house is still under warranty with the builder, so I can possibly have the builder fix it if it’s a door issue.

The builder may just blame it on the smart lock install though. Thanks for any insight.
